Piriformis syndrome is a cause of deep gluteal pain that can radiate down the leg, mimicking sciatica. It occurs when the sciatic nerve is compressed by the piriformis muscle.
⚠ Most common symptoms
- Deep unilateral gluteal pain
- Pain radiating to the back of the thigh
- Worse after prolonged sitting or climbing stairs
- "Sciatica-like" sensation without neurological changes

- Physiotherapy with stretching
- Postural correction and gluteal strengthening
- NSAIDs and local injection
✅ Prognosis
- Good with conservative treatment. Active rehabilitation prevents recurrence.
