Trochanteric bursitis is inflammation of the bursa over the greater trochanter of the femur. A frequent cause of lateral hip pain, especially in women and runners.
⚠ Most common symptoms
- Pain on the lateral side of the hip
- Pain when lying on the affected side
- Tenderness over the trochanter
- May radiate to the thigh, mimicking sciatica
🩹 Treatment
- Relative rest, physiotherapy, NSAIDs
- PRP or corticosteroid injections
- Postural re-education and gluteal strengthening
✅ Prognosis
- Very good with conservative treatment. Physiotherapy is key to preventing recurrence.
